Rachel's Story:

Saturday, October 16, 2010

Dearest Rachel,

My sweet baby girl,

We had a party today to celebrate your life and the gift that you are to us.  You had over 85 people who came to shower you with love!  You got some really cute clothes, a couple blankies, a jewelry box (and some jewelry!), a beautiful Christmas ornament, a poem written by Nana along with lots of cards with words of hope and encouragement...and $1,410.00 towards your playground!

One of your gifts is a little plaque that has a picture of a footprint and says "Sometimes the smallest gifts leave the biggest impressions."  You, my precious one, have touched so many hearts.  I am so proud to be your Mama.  The card that came with it said that she would never be able to see a footprint in the sand and not think of you...

I won't either... and my next thought will be about the picture that we are given in the footprints poem where the person asks the Lord, "Where were you when I needed you most?" and He replies.."When there is one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you"  There may only be one set of footprints, my girl, but there are three of us...me, you and Jesus - the prints in the sand are His, the ones on my heart are yours... Mine are nowhere to be found because this is all about you and Jesus - and I am so honored to be chosen to carry you to Him, as much as I don't want to let you go.  I will never ever be the same and I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love you with all that I am and I will never ever regret your story.  It's amazing and you are beautiful.

All my love,
Mama
He is carrying me while I'm carrying you..

Some people come into our lives and quickly go
Some people move our souls to dance...
Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon
They stay in our lives awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same

  1. I am so happy that you had a good time at the shower. I think Kelly did an awesome job. I think she even did a better job than me at planning the shower for Sam. Which you know, was really hard to beat. Not to get off subject but I will never forget one of your friends asking at Sams shower, "Don't these kids (speaking of my kids) wear you out?" My reply, "What do you think? I sent out blank baby shower invitations." Anyway back to the point, I think it went great and you are VERY lucky to have Kelly in your life. The shower couldn't have turned out any better. I love you,
    Meggie

  3. Love your letter to baby Rachel. I think you are going to have a wonderful scrapbook. I agree with Meg - we are all blessed that you have Kelly, and others equally talented, in your life since neither your sister or your mom have a flair for showers, parties etc.
    Love, Mom

  4. There is a photographer out of Plum Island, MA who has been taking a photo of the sunrise each morning (at the beach) for many years. He produces and sells only a certain number of copies from each day. A friend of ours gave us a photo of the sunrise from the exact day that Sawyer was born, as well as the exact day that he died. The most ironic thing is that there are footprints in the sand from the photo of the day he died (but not in the photo from the day he was born)...

If you're interested, I can send you his information...
